Get help with VocalScroll
The fastest answers for starting recordings, fixing permissions, and keeping the teleprompter in sync.
Use these step-by-step instructions to prepare your space, configure the app, and resolve common issues. Each section links to a deep-dive guide for additional context.
Quick start checklist
- Open VocalScroll in Chrome, Edge, or Safari. Confirm you are on https or localhost so camera and microphone permissions work.
- Paste or write your script in the editor. The app auto-saves every change.
- Select Voice or Timed scroll. Mobile users default to timed for stability.
- Click Record Me if you want to capture video, then press Start. Grant permissions when prompted.
- Use the Re-Sync button to realign highlights or adjust the speed control during timed sessions.
- Press Stop to finalize the take, then download or replay it from the Videos tab.
Permissions troubleshooting
If the teleprompter cannot access your camera or microphone, try the following steps:
- Reload the page and accept the permission prompts.
- Manually pick the correct microphone from the footer control once devices populate.
- Close apps that may lock your equipment (Zoom, Meet, Teams).
- On macOS, open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera/Microphone and enable browser access.
- On Windows, visit Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and confirm apps can use it.

Recording quality tips
Strong lighting and clear audio elevate every take. Start with these best practices:
- Position your key light 45° from the camera and match color temperature across fixtures.
- Use a cardioid microphone or lavalier within eight inches of your mouth.
- Enable Mirror Text when using a beam-splitter so both the preview and script flip together.
- Drag the video preview near the lens to maintain eye contact.

Voice mode support
Voice mode listens for significant keywords. If highlighting drifts:
- Click Re-Sync to sample the next phrase and realign.
- Reduce filler words or add punctuation so pauses are clear.
- Switch to timed mode temporarily, then return to voice mode when pacing stabilizes.
Read the Voice Control Guide troubleshooting section for advanced calibration steps.
Downloads & storage
Recordings remain in memory until you refresh the page. To keep an archive:
- Download each take right after you stop recording.
- Rename files with your project title and date for easy sorting.
- Store large videos on external drives or cloud storage as your workflow requires.
Remember that refreshing the tab clears the session list. Export quickly if you want to preserve multiple takes.
